Reimagining Light and Space: A Townhouse Transformation with Ingenious Design Moves

With natural light streaming through two skylights and windows gracing only the front and back of the townhouse, the challenge was clear: harness light ingeniously while redefining space. Our aim? To reclaim every inch and instill a seamless flow throughout. Key transformations include the integration of an expansive primary suite, a strategic relocation of the basement staircase and opening up the kitchen to the main floor.

Framing the View: A Light-Filled New Build Designed to Showcase the Lake and Timeless Craftsmanship

The lake was meant to be seen and enjoyed from every room. It had to be showcased as a piece of art. We wanted a light, bright house that played with textures. A canvas to the clients cherished belongings and the beautiful views. Beyond the pull to the outdoors this was meant to be a lake house boasting a comfortable lived-in feel and inviting coziness. A home for the clients that allowed them to feature their collection of artwork and exclusive Canadiana furniture. Although a new build, the clients wanted the warmth of traditional woodwork details. Wood paneling all painted in white was carried out, in the spirit of patrimonial homes of La Malbaie.

From Dim and Dated to Open and Elevated: A Country House Reimagined with Bold Expansions

This dimly lit and confined country house underwent a dramatic overhaul. All three levels were gutted, an extension was added benefitting the ground and top floor and an exterior living space was thought-out. The lake and beauty of the surrounding environment present a magnificent spectacle that needed to be showcased inside. Opening the main floor allowed for a bright and fluid living space, simply punctuated by the original fireplace at the center of the home. Treated as a monolith, the fireplace column is present on all three levels. The top floor presented many challenges when reorganizing the floor plan. Sloped ceilings and dormer windows limited the use of most peripheral walls for our layout and circulation.
